The dog expects long walks

The terrier’s walking habit deepens, broadens, worsens.  Nowadays she must be walked for half a mile or more before she will poop. Half way through the walk this evening I grew so tired I lay supine in the grass gazing absently at the twisted limbs of a fine Quercus lobata high above me, trying to marshal my strength, as the dog bounced on my chest and pawed at my face, prodding me to walk on.
